Poetry ~ I was once a river...

Until I met you

Vast and endless

I look ahead not knowing what lie ahead

This is the first time I’ve been here

Feeling the beginning of a new adventure

The forces of gravity pull me in

Closer

Deeper

Entranced by the immensity and power building before me

The waves come closer and know it’s too late to turn back

So I become still and wait…

Feeling the energy culminating below my fingertips

Playfully at first

And then faster

Until it encapsulates me fully

I coil under its strength and fight

Fight against this new place and myself

Not knowing when, and if, I’ll rise and breathe again or return to the comforts from where I came

And then…

When I think I can no longer make it

I feel a calmness and a warmth where it once was cold

I soften until I’m weightless

In my surrender

A release

I allow everything that surrounds me to caress and awaken my body

The tumultuous energy I once feared now carries me

Until I am contained in the embrace of what I once resisted

The more I explore this new world

The quieter it becomes

There is no longer chaos but peace

A safe haven and a new world that now holds me

The world below still a mystery

The darker the depths the brighter the light shines from above and guides the way

The torrents become a dance

A dance I now welcome

Flowing together, as one

Into a new expanse

With the darkness below and the light above

A home I was seeking all along
